Your Travel Experience with Beach Safari Holidays - TEST
Day 1
Fly to Mikumi Airstrip
Within an hour, the Indian Ocean's coastline gives way to the vast grasslands of the Mkata Floodplain, often hailed as southern Tanzania’s answer to the Serengeti.
Game Drive in Mikumi National Park
On arrival, you’ll be welcomed by your guide and set off on a full-day private game drive in your own vehicle, with an expert guide dedicated exclusively to your party. The vast Mkata Plains support an impressive diversity of wildlife, including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala and wildebeest, while resident lion patrol the grasslands and leopard are occasionally spotted. The park is also renowned for its large herds of plains game, all set against the dramatic backdrop of the Uluguru and Rubeho Mountains.
With a private vehicle, the day unfolds entirely on your terms. Spend longer at a busy waterhole, follow an exciting sighting, or pause whenever the scenery demands a photograph. There is no fixed schedule beyond the rhythm of the bush itself.
A leisurely coffee and tea break, together with a bush lunch served in the heart of the park, allows you to maximise your time on safari, remaining immersed in the landscape and its wildlife throughout the day rather than returning to camp.
Day 1 - 2
Overnight at Mikumi Wildlife Lodge
As the afternoon light begins to soften, you arrive at Mikumi Wildlife Lodge for your overnight stay. Set within the national park itself, the lodge offers an immersive safari experience, with wildlife often passing nearby and the sounds of the bush providing a fitting soundtrack to the evening. Dinner and your overnight stay are included on a full-board basis, leaving the rest of the evening free to unwind and reflect on the day’s sightings over a leisurely meal beneath the African sky.
Day 2
Game Drive in Mikumi National Park
After breakfast at the lodge, set out on a second full day of exploration with your private guide and vehicle. The early morning hours are among the most rewarding times to be in the bush, when temperatures are cooler and wildlife is at its most active. The atmosphere is noticeably different from the previous afternoon, offering fresh opportunities to encounter lion, leopard and other predators on the move, while birdlife is particularly vibrant in the soft morning light.
As before, the flexibility of a private safari allows the day to unfold at your own pace, whether that means lingering over an exceptional sighting, tracking wildlife across the plains or simply taking time to absorb the scenery. A relaxing coffee and tea stop, together with a bush lunch served in the heart of the park, ensures you can make the most of your final hours in Mikumi without interrupting the safari experience.
Fly to Zanzibar Airport
From there, you transfer back to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Zanzibar. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, returning to the coast by late afternoon. With two memorable days on safari behind you, the contrast between the wildlife-rich plains of Mikumi and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean provides a fitting conclusion to an unforgettable bush-and-beach experience.
